What’s involved?
Form
Stoneware from the clay-pits of the Dartmoor hand-built and shaped to make a container for your garden.
Surface
Burnish and compress the surface of your work to bring to life the colours of the additions, smoke and heat. We bisque fire your work.
Wrap
Layer and surround your bisqued work with additions to bring colour and vibrancy to your pot.
Fire
Tumble-stack in the barrel on layers of sawdust and sprinkle with pine cones, walnut shells, bananas and seaweed.
Shape and form a hand-built garden ceramics using stoneware clay harvested from the clay-pits of the Southwest.
Burnishing the pot’s surface with a smooth tool creates a smooth, shiny finish. The sheen is maintained through the barrel firing process.
Use different combustibles such as seaweed, salt-soaked vegetation, sawdust, banana skins etc to introduce a range of colours and markings.
Barrel firing is an alternative pottery firing where pots are fired in a metal barrel using organic materials and combustible to create unique surface effects.
