Use the key in the key-safe to unlock the door and always return directly to the key-safe after opening.

It is very important that you take full responsibility for maintaining a clean and usable space.
All members must ensure that the studio is returned in a clean and safe state for other users and are required spend 20 minutes after the end of your making session to sponge down all surfaces with plenty of water (use two bowls – one with clean water, the other empty to squeeze clay water), clean and replace tools and equipment and mop the floor leaving the space clean and safe, ready for the next user.
-
The clay used at the studio is the low-iron B17 stoneware, mined locally in Devon in open-cast mines by Imerys, processed by clay-manufacturer Valentine Clays and distributed by CTM Potters Supplies in Exeter. It is a world-class clay which is a very popular choice for potters.
Members are required to buy from the studio the B17 Stoneware (at cost price of £15 per bag). There is a limit of 2 x 12.5kg bags per member per month. This is to encourage members to reclaim and conserve their clay – reducing pressure on the studio technicians and to encourage good studio practice.
No other clay is permitted for use in the studio, this is so that the firing schedules and glaze behaviours are known and predictable.
-
Members are required to weigh the work and record the weight of finished work before placing on the shelves for bisque fire. Work for bisque firing is weighed and a £3 charge per kg will cover the cost of other consumable materials including glazes, slips and wax-resist and firing costs.

I recommend that you acquire your own range of specialist and personal tools to suit your own practice however you are welcome to use the tools on the peg-boards. Members are expected to provide their own throwing batt systems. The Shimpo wheels wheel-heads are 300mm in diameter and the Rohde wheel is 340mm in diameter so please bear that in mind when purchasing MDF batts. The Hartley & Noble Over the Wheel system for the 340mm wheel head is a good system but pricey. I suggest that you arrange a visit to a pottery supplier such as CTM Potters Supplies in Woodleigh Salterton near Exeter. Be advised that it is really helpful for them if you email ahead with your order. Alternatively, Bath Potters Supplies has an excellent website with a great range of tools.

Please do not eat in the studio.
You may use the kettle to make hot drinks, please help yourself to teas and instant coffee. If you take milk in your tea, you may like to bring in your own supply but feel free to use some from the fridge if there.

In the Dart Marine Park industrial units, a single parking permit is issued to business owners of each of the units. Without the display of this permit there is a risk that you could be issued with a penalty notice – unfortunately, I am unable to loan this permit at risk of losing it. Please feel free to park outside the unit in evenings and at the weekend at your own risk.
If you have accessibility challenges or are a blue-badge holder please email me with a request to use the parking space directly outside the studio, otherwise please use public car parks.
South Hams District Council offer a resident discount scheme for the Pay by Phone car parks nearby. Please explore this through this link.

Your induction will include guidance on working safely in the studio. However, in the case of an accident a First Aid box is stored over the sink.
Please inform the studio team (by email) of any resources used (for restock purposes) with details of what happened. This will be recorded in the accident book. In the case of an emergency always call 999.
